Description Dan Evans 2008-02-05 12:34:39 UTC
This is more a placeholder bug for potential problems with running as a Service. The details below are 2 weeks stale...

I tried demo'ing this to our Tier-1 agents in Phoenix on Jan. 23rd. I ran the SC Startup Options utility, set SC to run as a service without a username & password. SqueezeCenter restarted but no player was able to connect to it, out of 9 players in the room.

I restarted Windows but still no player was able to connect to the server. Squeezetray reported the server was running. I was able to open the UI.

I tried re-running the utility and this time entered in my username & password in the service selection settings. No change. No players were able to connect. Restarted Windows and still no change.

I ran the utility a 3rd time and reset it back to run as an Application. Everything worked fine again.

This would have been with the SC build dated Jan. 21. (whatever build that was)

Michael: can you take a look at this?
Comment 2 Michael Herger 2008-02-05 13:41:34 UTC
Dan - what firewall are you using on that machine? What Windows version?

I'm changing the subject, as SC seems to be running fine, but there's a connectivity problem from outside that machine.
Comment 3 Dan Evans 2008-02-05 14:18:21 UTC
It's Windows XP Pro SP2; running just built-in Windows firewall with exceptions.
Comment 4 Blackketter Dean 2008-02-05 16:37:56 UTC
Dan: were you able to get to the web ui?

Comment 5 Dan Evans 2008-02-05 16:44:16 UTC
You know, originally I said I could open the web UI, but... now that I think about it, I don't think I could. This was a couple weeks ago. I do remember that under one of the conditions I described above the SqueezeTray kept saying "SqueezeCenter starting..." forever.

Sorry to change my story. I opened this bug so that we wouldn't forget to look into this, not to demonstrate my memory capacity.

The problem is that we can't look into it if we can't reproduce it.

Anything else you can think of that would help us out here?

Dan you used the SqueezeCenter Service Enabler right? Did you give the username and password or did you leave them blank and have SC run as "anonymous system user"?
Comment 8 Dan Evans 2008-02-06 14:28:04 UTC
Ross: I used the app associated with Start > Programs > SqueezeCenter > SqueezeCenter Startup options

For my first attempt, I tried leaving the username/password blank
For my second try: I entered both in

I just spent some time with Dan in person on this bug and we've come to the conclusion that with the 1-21 build, on the very same system, we're unable to reproduce the issue. I've tried here my setup and I'm also not able to reproduce. I think it best to close this bug as works for me, and we'll revisit this if anyone is able to reproduce.

Thanks again for your time Dan.

This bug is being closed since it was resolved for a version which is now released! Please download the new version of SqueezeCenter (formerly SlimServer) at http://www.slimdevices.com/su_downloads.html

If you are still seeing this bug, please re-open it and we will consider it for a future release.
