Bugzilla – Bug 6819
Database corruption for large library
Last modified: 2008-12-18 11:12:53 UTC
I have been copying a reasonable large library to include my complete CD collection and ran into a glitch when I exceeded approximately 10,000 songs. I was at ~9500 songs, was adding approximately 650 additional songs when the library scanner stopped mid scan, no longer scanned for artwork and now has twice the number of songs indicated in my library database (ie shows approximately 20,000 songs). The database shows duplicates of each song and when I play an album, each song is played twice! This problem is repeatable, I reloaded the database and started with a subsection of songs and the same result occured after reaching ~10,000 songs.
It has nothign to do with 10,000. I have 17,000 working fine and a number of users have 5 times that. However, there could be a problem with the metadata in one of the tracks that is being added around the 10,000 mark. check the scanner log (a file called scanner.log) the duplicates could be related to a playlist somewhere in the added files that is still pointing to the old locations.
Robert please attach your log...
Robert: Please try with the latest nightly 7.0 release. A bug that caused some minor corruption in JPEG cover art images would cause this issue. If it's still happening, please reopen a the bug and attach the scanner log. Thanks!

Comment on attachment 2792 [details] Scanner.log The doubles of each song continues... the cover art issue was resolved.
I noticed a shortcut to the music library in the folder with the music library that caused the scanning program to go into an infinite loop (identified in the scanner.log). After removing the shortcut, the double listing of songs was eliminated. I'm not sire how the shortcut got into the folder, but suspect it occured when dragging files into the library. I consider this bug closed. Thanks
