Bugzilla – Bug 6795
simpler, art-only Now Playing screensaver
Last modified: 2008-12-15 13:08:22 UTC
I often use my SBC to display album art for what's playing on the SB3 that sits in front of the SBC cradle, using the Now Playing screensaver. In this mode, the text on the SBC Now Playing saver is redundant and often worthless (I'm usually too far away to read it). It would be nice to have a simpler Now Playing screensaver that 1) had no text 2) used the full width of the SBC display 3) had a black background with no title or status bar and 4) would darken the screen entirely if there was no art associated with the current track.
Good idea! (Patches welcome!)
Dean, this needs targeting.

Since I want to request the other direction, let me hope we are talking about choice here. I am frustrated that the now playing screensaver doesn't have the bottom row with the playing ICON, the wireless ICON, and the time. In general, I would love the option of de-emphasizing the artwork in favor of more readable information. The tiny fonts are particularly difficult in a sun glare situation.
I believe the fix for bug 9343 solves this issue. You can now configure the Now Playing screensaver to use "large" artwork-- wall-to-wall cover art. I preserved the rest of the metadata on the page by rendering the track info on one scrolling line. Marc- I appeased your request as well...the new Now Playing screensaver settings allow you to select "small", which will fire up the screensaver with the iconbar intact. Enjoy!
