Description Simon Turner 2004-11-23 00:27:21 UTC
I have had occasions when in all respects the Squeezebox looks as if it is
playing music (progress bar progresses) but infact it is not emitting any
audio signal at all (via audio outs, digital outs or headphones).
This problem has happened to me about fifteen times over the last three or
four month (i.e. with all SlimServer software versions in that time). The only
way to recover is to reboot Slimserver. In this time I have only been using
the full release versions of SlimServer.

Two out of three times the problem occurs when running Softsqueeze in sync
with my Squeezebox. However, I must stress that the problem also occurs when I
have not been running Softsqueeze at all. It is not a Softsqueeze specific
problem.

It is hard to replicate the problem upon request but I've had most success by
running Softsqueeze and Slimserver in sync and shutting down Softsqueeze (by
using the X button, or taskbar) whilst music is playing. Sometimes (but not
too often) this will cause sound to stop emitting from the Squeezebox.
I only use flac files and do not compress on the fly.

I have had similar problems to Simon. Admittedly most of the time when
developing Softsqueeze (so that might not count ;) ). But I have also seen this
on my two squeezebox's downstairs, that I don't sync with Softsqueeze. On a few
occassions I have checked the wiring on amps, volume, etc. and found that
unsyncing the players will start the audio.

As Simon says it's difficult to recreate, but it is always when one player is
'on' and the other is in the 'off' mode. Pressing the 'x' button on Softsqueeze
puts the player in the 'off' mode.

Need more details on how to reproduce this.

Richard, if you are still having this problem, please reopen and assign to yourself! :)
