Bugzilla – Bug 6686
Move the Player Name option from Advanced Settings
Last modified: 2009-09-29 03:43:07 UTC
Personally I am not sure it's a good idea having options for renaming players on Jive, although I have actually used this myself. I would like to suggest moving this from 'Advanced Settings > Player Name' into the '<Player> Information' window. The player name is visible in this window, and selecting it could take you to a page where you can name the player. This would still keep the functionality, but simplify the number of menu options. What do you think?
The idea was to put the settings that you might change more than once at the top level and the ones that you would change only once (or few people would change) under Advanced. Do you feel strongly about this?
I can add this later, but Player Information is a textarea not a menu and it looks good that way. I'm a bit resistant to changing that to a menu to accommodate the change
I do, I think we have too many advanced settings and this is something you really won't want to do very often at all.
I would also add that I think the Player Information should be displayed like the song information in a menu, being in a text area make it look inconsistent imho.
I actually disagree with that, in that the player information (right now) is entirely read-only information, whereas the songinfo menu has action items. Having the items in player information be "selectable" by styling as a traditional menu makes the user think there's a further path to be taken, when in fact there isn't. Of course, if one of those items allows for a player name change, then it's appropriate to switch it. Enough about this though, this isn't a 7.0 bug! :)
I seem in the minority here.
