Bugzilla – Bug 6569
The Jive volume up firmware fall back does not stick
Last modified: 2009-09-08 09:13:52 UTC
The Jive option to fall back to a previous version of the firmware by holding down the volume up button should stick. Currently it does not appear to do so. Steps to reproduce: On Jive navigate to the About screen and take note of the Version. Mine is 1 r1279. Power down the Jive then while holding the volume up button turn the Jive back on. Navigate back to the About screen and take note of the Version again. Mine is now 1 r1220. Power down Jive then turn Jive back on and navigate the About screen and note the version. Mine is 1 r1279 again. It should still be 1 r1220. This will also happen with a Factory Reset. David and Dean note that this is a critical firmware bug.
This was never intended to stick. I think it is fixable, but this will then be a ONE WAY operation. After using vol+ to switch to the older firmware you won't be able to get back to the newer one. Do you still want this fixed?
Ok, this is a misunderstanding. (Luckily I never really needed to use this button much!) My thinking was that pressing the VOL button at power on flipped to the other firmware image and that firmware image choice was saved. Reboot and hold down VOL again and you'd flip back. I _don't_ know that this is a critical firmware bug, but I do know that David has an issue that needs to get resolved for the made-in-SZ Jive build after the first MP runs. I do believe that making this flip permanent (until the user upgrades again or flips again) is more intuitive, but it's not a big deal for the user afaict.
I spoke to David and this is _not_ critical for the regular MP build or for the JiveSZ PQP build. David has a workaround.
This works as designed, if the requirements change please reopen this bug.
Moving from the old 'jive hardware' product to the new 'Squeezebox Controller' product.
