Description James Brown 2008-01-04 06:00:53 UTC
Having looked at some of the files it is crashing on they all appear to have corrupted album art contained in the mp3 tag.
(I seem to have quite a lot of these for some reason and they tend to be the first track of the album, suspecting maybe mp3tag via a network share might be to blame).

I think the crash is occuring in the processCoverArtRequest function of Slim::Web::Graphics being called from
line 122 of Slim::Music::Artwork although I have not had time to track down specifically where it is crashing (although the function call is contained in an eval) - incidentally I have often had database issues post rescan when running on a Linux box but it was in a bit of a mess anyway so I never really investigated so put it down to that and MusicIP issues. I suspect now the issues were related to this.

Maybe Image::TestJPG (http://search.cpan.org/~jhudge/Image-TestJPG-0.9/TestJPG.pm) could be used to test for corrupted artwork?

I have a couple of sample MP3s and a sample log file from a scanner crash at home which I can attach to this request later if that is possible via this bug report tool - if not I can email them.

Clearly this is a pretty annoying bug as it causes the scanner to crash. SqueezeCenter then soon dies when you try to play tracks from the library.

I admit I haven't read the bug writing guidelines but have had a search and can't find any similar bugs posted. If anymore information is needed (sample files/logs etc as looking now I can't an obvious way to attach them other than hosting on a url email me)

Cheers,
James

please don't preset targets.

see bug 4699.

There is a simple way to stop people presenting targets - make them non-selectable!

Looking at that report you guys aren't the most co-operative when people are genuinely trying to point out issues which break your product and you have been unable to fix for months. Nothing like perpetuating the conception about people in the industry having very few people skills and traits bordering on the autistic eh?

Hate to come across all terribly English but just think you could do with learning a few manners to smooth the passage of progressing your product. It doesn't hurt honest.

I will look at a workaround myself then.

Cheers
