Bugzilla – Bug 6483
Update Debian Package from SlimServer to SqueezeCenter
Last modified: 2008-12-18 11:12:53 UTC
I'm not sure if anyone is already working on this (or maybe it's waiting for a community volunteer) but I figured it should have an open bug. Specifically, the DEB package should be updated to use the squeezecenter name in file names, directories, service name, package name, etc. Ideally, this layout would be as close as possible to the RPM to simplify support. I may eventually look at this myself, but I'm hoping that someone with more Debian knowledge than me will adopt it.
Fletch: If you'd like to volunteer, that would be great, though I'm not familiar with the deb pkg to know how difficult/dangerous this would be (for example, how would upgrades be handled?) Andy/Brandon/Matt: do you have a feeling for this?
(In reply to comment #1) > Fletch: If you'd like to volunteer, that would be great For the time being, I'd rather not. I've never built a DEB package and I'd probably break a few things along the way. I'm sure there are Debian users here who could do this more efficiently than I could. I'll make sure I'm available to answer questions about why the RPM does things the way it does. > though I'm not > familiar with the deb pkg to know how difficult/dangerous this would be (for > example, how would upgrades be handled?) AFAIK, most of the principles are pretty similar, but I think that DEB only has a single version number vs. the RPM version-release string, so upgrades from nightlys may be trickier.
Since I'm already working on replacing the makerelease.pl script with something more elegant, reconfiguring the Debian builds isn't a big problem. I'm working on that with the ReadyNAS packages, so translating that into a newly-named Debian package won't be too hard. Give me a week or two at least, there's a lot going on with the build system right now!
This is just about done. We've still got some work to finish up on the deb package, but the basic bug is complete.
This bug is being closed since it was resolved for a version which is now released! Please download the new version of SqueezeCenter (formerly SlimServer) at http://www.slimdevices.com/su_downloads.html If you are still seeing this bug, please re-open it and we will consider it for a future release.
