Description Dan Evans 2007-12-26 11:22:06 UTC
While scrolling through a list of items, either songs or menu settings, when you get to the end of the list there's no easy way to know. The menu just snaps to the top of the list. To users unfamiliar with the the UI this is very jarring.

We need some indicator, either visual or audible, or both, to indicate: you are at the end of a list. Then if the user continues to scroll and it snaps to the other end of the list it will hopefully make more sense.
Comment 1 Michael Herger 2007-12-27 00:50:47 UTC
Scrolling should stop at either end, requiring additional spinning to wrap over the end.
Comment 2 Blackketter Dean 2007-12-27 05:15:45 UTC
The scrolling is supposed to pause when it hits the end of the list before wrapping around.

Is this not working for you, Dan?
Comment 3 Dan Evans 2007-12-27 09:04:28 UTC
I agree, but that is not perceived as feedback. It's perceived as a delay, which it is. And because there are other delays sometimes when you're scrolling it really does not warn someone that they are at the edge of a list.

Ok, we'll tune this post 7.0.
Comment 5 Richard Titmuss 2008-01-11 07:43:02 UTC
Actually you do have visual feedback, as the selection will only reach the top or bottom of the window when you are at the ends of the list. Maybe we need to add an audio tone too?
Comment 6 Richard Titmuss 2008-03-12 04:53:35 UTC
Reset priority
Comment 7 Blackketter Dean 2008-07-30 12:51:41 UTC
I think the pause we have here is sufficient.
Comment 8 Dan Evans 2008-07-30 16:32:17 UTC
Then I don't think you've watched users get confused by this UI element. But as you like.
Comment 9 Blackketter Dean 2008-07-30 16:39:31 UTC
So, the pause at the end of the list isn't doing it?

This bug was filed originally in december of last year, before much of the tuning was done.

What are you seeing the users having problems with?

Comment 10 Blackketter Dean 2008-07-30 16:41:42 UTC
I just checked my iPod and it completely stops at the end of the list.

Would you prefer that it doesn't wrap around at all?

I haven't heard any other feedback on this issue since we've shipped.

Comment 11 Dan Evans 2008-07-31 09:53:26 UTC
Perhaps the issue here is the period delays when you're scrolling through a list. The delays and the pause at the end of the list are perceived as the same, so the pause loses its meaning.

This is from observing friends and family members play with the Controller. I'll take another look to see if it's still behaving the way I remember when I filed this bug.

Old issue. No heat or interest to change. Closing to make room for more important issues.
