Audio plays back too slowly

SlimNAS / SoftSqueeze After playing some internet radio streams using AlienBBC I went back to play some mp3 files at which point a 44.1kHz file was played at about half speed. I haven't found a way to confirm if this is a server or SoftSqueeze problem, however the SoftSqueeze display did say the 'now playing' information was 44.1kHz

After various restarts and additional testing this doesn't seem to be anything to do with AlienBBC, just some specific mp3 files I listened to after getting AlienBBC working. The attached file plays fine in Windows Media player and Adobe Audition, but with SqueezeCenter running on SlimNAS and SoftSqueeze 3.5 the file seems to consistantly playback at half speed. Before I do a clear and rescan, is there a way for me to find out what the SqueezeCenter database thinks the audio format is? I assume we need to find out if it's a scanning or playback bug.

I clicked on the track in SqueezeCenter and got these details displayed: Track: 1 File Format: MP3 Duration: 3:13 File Length: 4,638,132 Bytes Bitrate: 192kbps CBR Sample Rate: 44.1 kHz ID3 Tag Version: ID3v2.3.0 If I click on the progress bar and jump to the middle of the track then it plays fine, it's only when playing from the start that there's a problem. Playing from the start, the timer counts down to zero, but the audio keeps going past that.

Having done some more testing this seems to be related to the mp3 decoder used in SoftSqueeze. Specific audio files were playing at about half speed or not at all on SoftSqueeze. I've now switched back to using the JLayer mp3 decoder rather than the Java mp3 plugin and it seems to have resolved the problems. This is with Softsqueeze 3.5 running on WinXP sp2 with Java 1.6.03 When the audio was playing at half speed, if I clicked in the progress bar in SqueezeCenter so that it jumped a few seconds into the track then it played at the correct speed. However every time these specific tracks played from the start, they played all the way through at half speed.
Liam: Please try SqueezePlay, softsqueeze is being phased out. Open a new bug if you still have issues with SqueezePlay
