checkin r1248 strips out the new menu behavior.

-when you turn player X off, you should see that item change text from
"Turn X off" to "Turn X on". Nothing else should change on the menu.

-if you select an item in a browse menu to be played, player will be
turned on and playback will commence.

and there was much rejoicing.

This bug has recently been fixed in the latest release of SqueezeCenter 7.0.1

Please try that version, if you still see the error, then reopen this bug.
