Description Alan N 2007-12-19 13:21:00 UTC
I'm running SqueezeCenter Version: 7.0 - 15454 - Windows XP - EN - cp1252 on a WinXP Laptop. It's set to run automatically at windows login. The 7.0 beta nightlies installed and worked fine until recently. Now, SqueezeCenter RUNS okay, but it won't "open" in my browser (IE 7.0) to allow control from my computer. It just hangs, with the "Loading SqueezeCenter" spinning icon. I still have full control via my three Squeezeboxes/remotes. Of note, I had previously SAVED the SqueezeCenter Settings URL, for quicker access, and THAT page still loads fine in my browser. Not sure if problem lies with web interface, faulty install, or other issue.

Can't reproduce with 15485. Did you have a different version installed before? Is this an update installation?
Comment 2 Michael Herger 2007-12-20 04:50:59 UTC
Now I see it. You mean the "balloon" doesn't go away? Buf if you close it manually, everything's ok?

I'm now running 15528, which was installed over previous SC 7.0 nightlies (initial SC 7.0 was a CLEAN install after deleted older 6.5.x). The SqueezeCenter window NEVER opens, just hangs with spinning icon and saying "Loading SqueezeCenter". URL is http://127.0.0.1:9000/

I can close the browser window, and have normal operation with all my Squeezeboxes and remotes. However, I need the browser interface to build playlists and occasionally control various SB's, plus access various controls.

I *am* able to access the settings page at... http://127.0.0.1:9000/settings/index.html?player=00:04:20:05:a3:d4

I do have similar problem as stated by Alan, but I don't even see 'Loading SqueezeCenter' when i click on SqueezeCenter icon or manually. It's just give a blank page.

SC web interface page failed to load again.

Attached server.log for your analysis and advice.

Could it be error in cmdwrapper_Default file?

Can you please make sure you're using the original cmdwrappers_Default file? Remove it and reinstall. It really looks broken (using HTML entities instead of the original characters, eg. > instead of >)
Comment 11 Michael Herger 2007-12-27 02:00:32 UTC
Alan - your log is a bit long to be clear. Could you please update to the latest SC version, try again, and only upload the latest part where you tried to access the web page.

Additionally - do you see javascript error messages when the browser is hanging? Could you access http://localhost:9000/Classic/?

It's origanl cmdwrapper_Default file downloaded and installed from nightly build 22/12. I would uninstall the entire SC and reinstall the latest nightly build.

Thanks.

download error

Mike, when i download latest nightly build 27/12 and previous version, i encounter this download error at 99% of completion. But when i click 'try again', it would complete the installation. Is it normal and related to the above bug?

Thanks.
Comment 14 Michael Herger 2007-12-27 05:00:25 UTC
I'd bet that is a problem with your Windows/Internet Explorer. Did you try using a different browser? Or at least clear the browser's cache and try again?

When this happened did you try to open the file directly from the download page? Or did you save it on disk first?
Comment 15 Lim Chiau Wu 2007-12-27 05:10:37 UTC
Yes, I am using IE 7.0 browser, no i don't have other browser installed.

I will clear browser cache and download again.

No, I downloaded and the file to hard disk, about near the end at 99% of downloading the error pops up.

I will try again.
Comment 16 Lim Chiau Wu 2007-12-27 05:55:14 UTC
Still face the same download error after clear the browser cache.
Comment 17 Blackketter Dean 2007-12-27 11:34:49 UTC
Lim Chiau Wu: try restarting your computer. it sounds like a file is being left open somewhere.

Michael,

Actually, I uninstalled SC 7.0 this am (before seeing your last reply), and just reinstalled it now, and everything is working fine. SqueezeCenter opens normally in IE 7.0 browser window, and all my prior settings were maintained (thanks for adding that feature!). The Classic View URL works (now), but I never checked with the older version. I don't recall ever seeing a Javascript error when the browser was hanging. Given that the 12/27 nightly is working well (at least for me, using WinXP), and that SC preferences are PRESERVED in WinXP Documents and Settings, perhaps everybody having this problem should just uninstall SC and install the latest nightly. Whatever you did, it seems to have fixed the issue, at least for WinXP.

Thanks for the feedback.
Comment 20 Lim Chiau Wu 2007-12-28 14:40:56 UTC
Dean, Mike, everything is perfect now. :)

I have cleared browser cache, then restart PC. Then download latest nightly build, 28/12. No more download error msg.

Thanks for guidance.

Cheers and Happy New Year.

cmdwrapper_default file for checking

from the previous server.log, it seems there is an error (line 39) in cmdwrapper_default file. Attached please find cmdwrapper_default (come with 28/12 nightly build SC)installed in my pc for your troubleshooting and advice.

Thanks.

Any solutions? I faced the same problem today after downloaded 31/12 nighly build SC. Whenever this problem arise, i need to uninstall, reinstall SC, change/update SC settings. What a tedious work.
Comment 24 Blackketter Dean 2008-01-01 06:59:38 UTC
PM from auronthas says this is still happening. He's attaching additional information.

To add on my previous posts, i can still control my SB via remote even with the blank web UI.
Comment 27 Michael Herger 2008-01-03 00:14:23 UTC
According to http://forums.slimdevices.com/showpost.php?p=253599&postcount=27 this is working again.

IMHO no bug, but some configuration/caching issue.
Comment 28 Lim Chiau Wu 2008-01-03 05:41:19 UTC
Mike, i just want to report after setting SqueezeCenter Option, no more problem. I have tried the third time (shutdown, restart, run SC), SC run extremely steady, stable now. Thanks.

Why I can run SC without problem before nightly build 21 Dec without setting SqueezeCenter Option? Just curious.

Mike, it was me (auronthas) who reported and I can confirm I have no problem so far. Cheers. :)
