Description Rod Savard 2004-11-02 06:14:08 UTC
Having to go around to my squeezeboxes and hold the brightness key down is an
annoyance. I would much prefer that the firmware is auotmatically updated if
necessary.

This should be a user configurable option, and perhaps not allowed on wireless
Squeezeboxes.

This is a security feature, to prevent accidental or malicious firmware updates from the network. I"ll
leave the bug open as an enhancement, a future version might have a user specified setup option that
would allow automatic network-based upgrades.

one thought occurred to me on this. given a setup with many clients, what will
happen when teh server starts up and all the clients start demanding an
automatic upgrade all at once?
Comment 3 Blackketter Dean 2004-11-10 09:26:41 UTC
That should be fine. Firmware updates are done in a non-blocking manner, so it may take a little extra
time, but shouldn't hose anything.

Marking items that aren't going to be addressed immediately in 6.1 as future. Please update if this is in
error or the bug has already been addressed.
Comment 5 Jim McAtee 2005-09-21 14:34:08 UTC
In addition to making it completely optional, I think there should be the
ability to do this from the web UI, both for upgrading the firmware and for
forcing a reload of the current firmware.

This is definetely a must-have for situations where there are 6 or 7
squeezeboxes hidden away in hard to access places and the setup is controlled
via the web/cli.

Is this not a fixed bug? I've had auto upgrade on my squeezeboxes for a few months now!
