Bugzilla – Bug 6388
"Now Playing" settings change in Slimserver
Last modified: 2008-12-18 11:12:53 UTC
This had been a problem ever since I bought both my Squeezebox 3's and installed Slimserver in January. In the Slimserver Web interface, I choose a setting under "Home / Player Settings for XXXXX / Basic Settings". After several days or weeks, what shows up on the display changes to a different setting. If I open up Basic Seetings for the player, it's changed there as well. I choose what I want and the cycle repeats again. I can only partially associate it (not definitively) with when I use the "Shadow Play" plugin. It happens for both of my Squeezeboxes. Between that and fact that the settings have changed on the Slimserver web page, It appears that the values for each player in the database are somehow being changed. This isn't a big problem, just an annoyance.
Felix: is this related to ShadowPlay? Tim: Does this happen under 7.0?
ShadowPlay does not change any of the player or sever settings, so I doubt it being related. But if you have different settings for the two players, then you would see that when using ShadowPlay. Maybe your settings cannot be written to disk, due to an access right issue. This would revert your settings whenever you restart SlimSever.
The Linux machine that runs Slimserver reboots weekly and the settings change doesn't coincide with the reboot. I have noticed a couple of times that the setting changed after using Shadow Play to control another player, but I can't specifically tie it to Shadow Play. Since I noticed this problem, I've been keeping the settings the same on both players. Once, both players changed, to different settings. The "Now Playing Information" settings are the only ones that change. All other settings remain constant. I haven't tried 7.0 yet. This isn't enough of an issue to become a beta/gamma tester. I assume this isn't anything you've heard about before.
When you use ShadowPlay and press Now Playing on your remote, that actually changes the setting of the controlled player, so you would see this the next time you go the that player. Is that what is happening?
Yes, I have seen this happen a few times. I use Shadow Play to control another player. The display may or may not be changed while I'm controlling it, but next time I pass by the player I was previously controlling (no longer controlled), the settings have changed. Again, I can link only about a third of the changed settings to Shadow Play. I have 2 Squeezeboxes and it happens on both of them.
Ok, here's another idea, independent of ShadowPlay. The Now Playing screen behaves differently when listening to a track or listening to a streaming radio station. For instance there is no remaining time for streaming radio. Let say you are listening to a normal track and the setting is progress bar and remaining time. Now you switch to listening to a streaming radio station and now the display shows only time passed in the Now Playing screen. If you now hit Now Playing on the remote once, the display doesn't change visibly, but it has changed on SS/SC. If you go back to listening a normal track again, the Now Playing screen would now show no progress bar and time passed.
I am using ShadowPlay myself every day and I don't see this issue. Please try to see if what I suggested is what actually is happening. Feel free to reopen if you still see the issue and still think it's related to ShadowPlay.
For what it's worth I am using a Linux system too, and have noticed this bug occur a few times since I got my Squeezebox. I do not use ShadowPlay. The Now Playing setting just seems to change at random times.
Please ignore my previous comment. I just figured out what was happening. I didn't realize that the 'now playing' button changed the display information when the player is in playlist mode. So I was inadvertently changing the mode without noticing once in a while.
Referring to command 6, 8, & 9 collectively, does this mean that switching between playing local file and Internet radio stations really changes the Now Playing setting in Slimserver? I would assume that if each had it's own settings, they'd each be preserved. On the other hand, Nathan's experience seems very similar to mine. This may have been a design oversight in the system. Or am I just reading this wrong? P.S. Since I had to rebuild the Linux box that Slimserver runs on, I have upgraded from 6.5.4 to 6.5.5 (not quite ready to move to the "unstable" distribution yet) and haven't noticed it since (a week and counting). Thanks!
Switching alone does not change the setting. It only might be different what you see on the display as not all parts (i.e. progress bar) make sense when listening to streaming radio stations. There is only one setting used for both, but when listening to internet radio, changing it does not necessarily change what you see on the display, but it might be different when switching back to local files. If you think there should be two settings, please open an enhancement request for that, thanks. As you haven't seen it for a while and since I am pretty sure it is not related to ShadowPlay I am going to put it on WORKSFORME again. Feel free to reopen, if you still think it is related to ShadowPlay usage.
This bug is being closed since it was resolved for a version which is now released! Please download the new version of SqueezeCenter (formerly SlimServer) at http://www.slimdevices.com/su_downloads.html If you are still seeing this bug, please re-open it and we will consider it for a future release.
