Bugzilla – Bug 6380
Jive, SqueezeNetwork: Sometimes there is "Chinese" in shoutcast genre, but "Cantonese" is missing. Sometimes it is the reverse.
Last modified: 2008-02-01 13:43:16 UTC
Jive FW: Version Independent Steps to Reproduce: 1. After setting up Jive with a slim device, Go to SqueezeNetwork. 2. Go to Internet Radio. 3. Go to ShoutCast. 4. Go to Genre. 5. Scroll down the list. 6. There used to be a "Chinese" item on the list. 7. On Saturday night, 2007-12-15, about 8 PM PST, there was no "Chinese". Instead, there was a "Cantonese". 8. The two items have different lists of stations. 9. On the morning of Sunday, 2007-12-16, the reverse was true.
Wallace is this true from the web ui also?
I have always seen Chinese, but not Cantonese on Web UI. By the way, I do not believe this is a show stopper for the MP version of Jive FW.
Right now, I am seeing both "Cantonese" and "Chinese" on the Web UI.
What is causing this? For the last several weeks, the Cantonese link seems to disappear once for a while. What should be done about this? There are great many audiophiles in Hong Kong. This is a great product for them to have. Many oversea Chinese also speak Cantonese. However, within Mainland China, percentage of people who speak Cantonese is quite small.
How big is the Cantonese market? That determins how important this bug is.
This is not a Jive bug, it should be filed under SqueezeNetwork. Also, it's not a bug, it's the way Shoutcast works, you only see genres with available stations.
So that is how it works. Genres displayed is based on available stations. Based on Andy's explanation that this is not a bug, closing.
Closing.
