Description Rod Sorochuk 2007-12-15 06:57:56 UTC
Overview Description:
- The Test Tones output level by default drives the analog output at full volume.

Steps to Reproduce:
- Transporter is not connected to network, i.e. standalone
- Tranporter -> Amp, i.e. no pre-amp.
- Setup Menu 2 of 8 to access Current Settings
- Current Settings Menu 19 of 19 for Test Tones
- Select Test Tone, Default volume is 0dB attenuation

Actual Results:
- Test Tone signal presented at full level to amplifier and speakers. Possible to damage speakers.

Expected Results:
- Test Tone signal should default to low output level, then user sets volume control to decrease attenuation. Re-use new volume control setting for subsequent test tone signal types in the Current Settings.

Build Date & Platform:
- SlimServer Version: 6.5.4 - 12568 - Windows XP - EN - cp1252
- Transporter f/w: 31

resetting target so that this can be reviewed (please do not preset as the undefined state is used to flag for initial reviews)

again, not a bug, as this is as designed. docs may want to make clearer note of 0db levels.

Agreed, not a bug, but wouldn't it be better to preset the attenuation to a value other than 0dB? 0dB is maximum output to the system. Please consider starting the test at "idle speed", not "maximum rpm's".

Sean: can you comment?

The test tones are supposed to be -0db, as they would otherwise be practically useless. I will change the display to something more obvious like "100% FS" or "Max level".

Rod, you need to fix your system! You should not be connecting Transporter, or any other source for that matter, directly to an amplifier without suitable analog attenuation. Not only are you severely compromising sound quality, but you also risk destroying your speakers.
