Description Rod Sorochuk 2007-12-15 06:39:21 UTC
Overview Description:
- When using the remote control, the Volume Control Increment/Decrement rate takes approximately 24 seconds to cover the full range of attenuation.

Steps to Reproduce:
- Depress the volume up/down on the remote control for more than 2 seconds.

Actual Results:
- See Overview Description.

Expected Results:
- Pressing the Increment/Decrement button for a corresponding dB increase/decrease is ok. Holding the Increment/Decrement longer should correspond to a faster rate than current implementation.

- Unmuting audio at high volumes causes a rude click, therefore, it's necessary to mute audio, increase attenuation, unmute audio, then decrease attenuation. Otherwise it's possible to damage speakers during unmute.

Build Date & Platform:
- SlimServer Version: 6.5.4 - 12568 - Windows XP - EN - cp1252
- Transporter f/w: 31

resetting target so that this can be reviewed.

flagging as enhancement, as the volume sweep time/acceleration is as designed.

Thanks for reviewing ID 7374. I think it's important to be consistent with the mainstream. The majority of equipment have full attenuation sweep times less than 10 seconds.

A better solution to any sudden clicks when resuming after a pause would be to fade in the audio over a relatively short period of time. Have you tried using the player's Crossfade settings? Try setting it to 'Fade in', with something like 2 or 3 seconds.
Comment 4 Jim McAtee 2007-12-16 13:36:35 UTC
Actually, I've just played around with it a bit. Volume should already be fading in and out when you pause. It's pretty quick - maybe two seconds. The Crossfade option doesn't appear to have any effect on pause behavior.

The issue here is the speed that you can change the volume going up/down. I agree this should be addressed and 10 seconds seems like a very reasonable maximum time from silence to full volume.

Alas, we won't be able to get to this for version 7.0.
Comment 6 Felix Mueller 2008-07-11 03:15:23 UTC
This won't make it into 7.1

All new Squeezebox products are likely to be based on the SqueezePlay platform.
We do not plan to implement any further enhancements to the ip3k firmware or
which are targeted specifically at ip3k-based products.
