Bugzilla – Bug 6373
Audible click when switching between Pause/UnPause
Last modified: 2008-05-05 14:44:48 UTC
Overview Description: When music paused and then unpaused, an audible click is heard through speakers. When the volume is loud, the click noise is rude and possible damage to speakers is a reality. Steps to Reproduce: - Transporter is not connected to Network, i.e. standalone Transponder. - Transporter connected as Pre/DAC to Amp, i.e. no preamp is used, only CD source -> Transporter -> AMP. - CD Source -> Digital Input: RCA S/PDIF ( I haven't tried any other digital inputs ) - Listen to CD Source at 3/4 to Full Volume, i.e. no attenuation - Press Pause on Remoter Control to mute audio, press Pause to unmute audio. Actual Results: Audible Click thru speakers. Depending on volume, the noise can be rude. Expected Results: Silence during switches between mute and unmute. Build Date & Platform: - Slimserver Version is 6.5.4 - 12568 - Windows XP - EN - cp1252 - Transporter f/w: 31
Further to my investigations, the transporter is definitely not un-muting gracefully. When the attenuation on the Transporter is -50db!!!, i.e. muted, and you depress/release the Remote Pause button, signal is passing through to the DAC outputs during presses of the Pause button? I measured the output signal and the level isn't any larger than the audio level, so speakers are ok. BUT the quality of sound when un-muting the signal is annoying & startling. I connected an old Sony amp with mute control, and the Sony amp gracfully un-mutes to the audio program in progress. Also, Sony's display lights up the mute indicator for mute mode, i.e. feedback to the user. Bugzilla request ID 6376. Rod

Sean: Have you seen this?
could this be a duplicate of 4289?
Unable to reproduce this with Fw41. Analog outputs are totally silent when pausing/unpausing while muted. Rod (or anyone) - if you find that this is still happening in newer firmware, please reopen this bug.
