Description john frazee 2007-12-13 08:22:23 UTC
I have a transporter and an SB; XP Home; NAS; Flac Encoding; SB Wireless; Transporter Ethernet. Gigabit Ethernet, Wireless G.

I tried to migrate to a new IMAC (1 Week Old) but could not manage to make the Mac installs work with Leopard, and maintain connection to the NAS. This included versions 6--7. I tried all three. System was working reliably with 6.5.4 pm a pc for months.

I decided to try using the PC as a server, located in a closet, and to connect to the server through the browser at xx.xx.xx.xx:9000 from the IMAC. This works.

However, synchronization does not work for more than a few seconds and then the audio level begins fading up and down, then stopping. Eventually, as I dropped connections, it appeared that there were two streams coming from the single main transporter (by appeared, I mean I seemed to hear two streams, slightly out of sync).

If you have suggestions I would be happy to troubleshoot further.

john

Note, for what it's worth, 5.5 and 7 were found to be completely unsatisfying with Leopard, largely because of difficulty maintaining network connections. And I did consult Apple, Linksys, Slimdevices, and third party forums extensively, and tried various fixes. None matched the reliability of NAS on a pc running XP, a setup that has just run for nearly a year.

P.S. Why can't there be a dockable Icon for a slim device when I want to start up, instead of all that preference scrolling stuff?

But I LOVE the Transporter/SBs. I have three already.

Thanks.

This is probably more of a support issue, as just about all word on the 7.0 sync is that it is really good. cc'ing alan since he has been deep in the sync code of late and may have some ideas. Otherwise, support@slimdevices.com is probably a better first approach.

Alan, can you take a look at this?
Comment 3 Alan Young 2007-12-20 23:07:17 UTC
Hi, Can you enable logging of sync code with the following settings: Settings / Advanced / Logging and set player.source and player.sync both to Debug level. Recreate your problem scenario and then post the log here with a description. Thanks.

John, any chance of that logging? Alan.
Comment 5 john frazee 2008-01-08 05:15:04 UTC
I will try to do it this weekend. I meant to get to it over the holidays and didn't get around to it.

I have not had a recent incident of the problem arising spontaneously. There are a number of Leopard networking issues that could have been involved originally. Leopard is known for recognizing, then "forgetting" the smb/ipaddress locations of network devices, and other similar problems. Also Mozilla seems much more forgiving than Safari, and I might have been running Slim in Safari.

But I will try to rev back and make a report.

Thanks.

Closing this for now as we have insufficient information to investigate further. Please reopen if you have a reproducible case.
