Bugzilla – Bug 6172
"Screensaver when powered off" doesn't work after sleep
Last modified: 2007-11-21 11:20:41 UTC
When I set the sleep settings on my SB3 (playing Pandora) to "sleep after xx minutes", no screensaver plays even though I have one set for when power is off. The screen is dark. After I power it up, it works normally. This happens 100% of the time.
Are you using the latest nightly build? What screensaver are you using for "while playing"? What screensaver are you using for "when off"? What is your screensaver timeout setting? Tested with a local track, sleep at end of song, Softsqueeze seems to transition from "Now Playing" screensaver while playing to "Date/Time" when off. It does take a while, as the sleep fade is quite long. It also may require the timeout to lapse again after stopping. I didn't time it exactly nor can I test with Pandora.

I am using Michael Herger's Timespeller as my screensaver when off, and the standard Now Playing while playing. I'll have to check the timeout setting - I don't think i changed it. I have only tried it with Pandora. I'll try it with my music, with different screen savers, and with different timeouts using tonight's version on a rebuilt system. My testing has been while in use only, and since I'm always late for something in the morning I haven't been very rigorous with it. I only know now that when I go to sleep it's working fine, and when I wake up the display is off. It's funny - my wife asked me to ask you to add a "time" button to the remote because she counts on the time being there now.
I just tested this with a Pandora station, and it did correctly turn off after the song. I don't know how long it took to do so, because I didn't pay attention. But it's off.
If this still keeps occurring as we get closer to 7.0, or if anyone else stumbles across this proble, let us know, and we can have a closer look.
I feel such an idiot - the automatic brightness feature (which is quite cool) set the brightness to 1 when turning off the SB. In daylight, I couldn't see that it was actually on. (I did look closely, but in any kind of sunlight the display is invisible at 1.) It wasn't until I tested it at night that I realized what was going on. So, this isn't a bug at all. My apologies for taking up your time!
