Description andy 2004-09-30 12:39:28 UTC
When two or more players are sync'd, gaps are inserted between tracks.

This is really noticable when playing cd's where the tracks are mixed together
at their transition and is pretty annoying to be honest.

I guess this is because you are re-syncing the players but is is necessary to
re-sync at every track?

Suggestions:

A. An the fly sync management by modulating the streams - hard I guess.
B. Offer an option to manually select how many tracks have to play before a
hard resync.
C. Add a playlist option so the mega fussy can say mark playlist points where a
resync is allowed.

B would suit me ok meantime and I would have thought this would be reasonably
ok to do..

Thanks...Andy

Any progress on this issue? I'm still seeing it when syncing an SB3 (firmware 72) with softsqueeze 3.3, using slimserver 6.5.1.

It occurs when playing wav, flac, ogg and mp3. I agree with Andy that it's relatively annoying with smooth transitioning tracks such as those in a lot of classical music.

My preference for a quick & dirty fix would be simply to disable re-syncing at the start of each track (Andy's option B, where re-syncing is set to "never"). If the streams got noticeably out of sync, I could just re-start the current track.

However, in the longer term, wouldn't it be better if the re-syncing could be done at the end of the current track, rather than waiting for the track to end and then re-syncing? This would eliminate any pause other than one created by a genuine difference in sync caused by different playback speeds.

Alas, this gap is a side effect of the way that we do sync now, which is that at the end of every track we resync.
The better solution is detailed in bug 259, it's probably not right to end the songs early either....

Routine bug db maintenance; removing old versions which cause confusion. I apologize for the inconvenience.

This is not and has never been resolved for me. I've had countless conversations, e-mails and different bug reports. This is one of many problems since 7.1. I was fine through every version of 6.5. I picked up a new IMAC and problems are worse.
-Constant revuffering which shuts down machines and/or freezes computer
-Still can't use Safari because of a bug that has been around forever. Firefox is a joke compared to Safari.
-I could go on and on. I guess I'll have to pull up the appropriate threads.

Does any version of 7.1 play apple lossless files properly??

-This thread doesn't look good http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=52048&page=3 This is back in 2008, is this still the same?
-I just read this:http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/AAC and got pretty confused. Have to add scrip or bitrate?
