The SC oldpref import feature seems to work very well, but do we really want to import the old skin setting? When SC is finally released, hopefully users will be impressed by the fancy new Default skin. If we import the old skin setting many users may not ever even notice the new skin is there. If they really want to stay with another skin it's trivial to change it back.

trivial yes, but it will create some hostile reactions.
doesn't take much to look through to forum to see what reaction occurs simply from a user finding music files s/he hadn't noticed on their computer before

You're already changing the skin for anyone who'd previously been using Default.

How about adding another step to the setup Wizard? Perhaps only include the step when upgrading, and skip it when it's a fresh install. Explain a few features of the new Default skin, plus explain that the previous Default skin is now called Classic. Then give the user a choice of which skin to use.

I like the wizard suggestion.

I don't like the wizard suggestion. (Sorry Fletch :) )

I'm going to say that we should leave the behavior as-is....
