Bugzilla – Bug 5809
Plugin installer mechanism
Last modified: 2009-08-31 05:19:25 UTC
Split off from bug 4112, we need an easy mechanism for users to install plugins.
This is pasted in from a forum post, members said I should post my ideas here: It would be great if there was an updater utility within SqueezeCenter that checked all plugins againsts current versions and offered you the option of updating them, kind of the way FireFox does. This would greatly automate the maintenance of SqueezCenter.. The average user would only have to navigate to the "updates" section of SqueezeCenter every once in a while and SC would do the rest... search for updates to both core and 3rd party software, let you know which are available, let you pick which to install (and be smart enough to ensure you have the proper prerequisites for various plugins, like another plugin or version of a plugin). It could even offer plugins not yet installed - be a catolog of every plugin available and manage installation and uninstallation of them all. Once you pick the updates, additions and unistalls you want, SC downloads 'em, installs 'em and restarts. This is especially useful for folks who run their SC on a "headless" device.

That's implemented in 7.3 (Extension Downloader) and 7.4 (core)
