Bugzilla – Bug 5780
Select Player missing player names, showing on only MAC address
Last modified: 2007-11-01 07:47:28 UTC
The web UI shows garbage characters in place of anything else in the Choose Player drop-down box, upper right hand corner. Clicking in the triangle to drop the menu down has no affect (no response). I grabbed a screenshot of it, if you want to see it. Reloading browser has no affect. Closing browser window and reopening has no affect. Hyperlink for Player Settings (bottom right) is missing. Playback of songs through this player is as normal. Safari beta browser SS 7.0a on PPC Mac mini 1 x SB3 (wireless)
Created attachment 2264 [details] Choose Player garbage
This isn't garbage, it's a urlencoded MAC address, used to identify players. Have you given the player a name? do you have a firewall or proxy on your network? The names are provided by a server ressponse, which is often blocked by proxies (usually corporate)
This is an established player, named and all broken in long ago. Internal LAN is open; no firewalls. No IPs, locations, servers or otherwise have changed. It simply was working one minute, and the next I see this. Bouncing the SlimServer on the Mac cleared it.
cc'ing michael for any other ideas as to why player selector might not get updated with the proper names
Do you always see the Mac address instead of its name or just right after loading the page? When the button is created it uses the player id given by the server as its text. But it's replaced by the real name once SC got the full list of players from the server (which should usually be the case only a few seconds after you've opened it). Do you see the real name in the drop down list, when you click the button?
I've checked in a minor change to display the non-encoded MAC address right from the start. But on my system it's correctly displaying the player's name anyway. If you still don't see the player's name displayed, do you see JS errors in your browser? (MSIE: bottom left, FF/Opera: open error console window)
change 13811 - by default there should now be a "human readable" name, like "Squeezebox 2" etc. Ford - could you please update and report back?
In this instance, I had an open session with the server, about three songs through an album, and the web UI was normal (player name correctly displayed, drop down box working). At some point during playback I noticed that the layer name had changed, I investigated, and reported this bug. The only thing that cleared it was bouncing the server. Remembering that I had launched SoftSqueeze about the same time, I just checked to see if that was it. While launching SSq complains that the version is out of date, it does operate normally. I clicked around the (now two) player settings and all is well. Sorry if I'm not more help; may have just been a network glitch. I'll grab the latest nightly and try, but all has ben working well since that one error. BTW- 7.0a feels really tight to me, with only some UI cleanup needed.
Is this still an open issue or can I close it?
I have not seen this behavior reoccur.
Thanks! Closing.
