Description Doug Williams 2007-10-13 06:56:46 UTC
Windows XP, build 10/13.
uninstalled previous SC.
cleaned registry.
installed SS 6.5.4
setup music/playlist folders, MusicIP, scanned, confirmed proper operation
left SS 6.5.4 running
installed SC 7 - 10/13

Still hangs waiting for a mouse movement before it finishes painting the
language options screen. The screen comes up blank and unfinished until it is moved. If you use the arrow keys to answer the Windows "Open File - Security Warning" screen (picking run) it can even be completely transparent/hidden until the mouse is moved.

Depending upon how patient you are this can be a while...

Environmental note: Remote connecting to the Windows XP box during testing.

IE7?
Comment 2 Doug Williams 2007-10-13 12:29:16 UTC
This is not the browser. This is the install script .exe. When you click on the .exe it pops up with the OS warning about it not being certified, etc. You then click on "Run" or left arrow to "Run". This box goes away and the first installer dialog box "should" be coming up asking about what language you want (to install in, I guess). However, the screen doesn't come up and/or fully paint until the mouse is moved.

After the files are all installed the setup wizard (or what I am calling it, I don't know the official name) pops up in the browser and asks again for language. This one has no problems.

Doug - I've never been able to reproduce this. Are you using some higher end graphics adapter or some 3rd party drivers (drivers not delivered by Windows? I've seen odd repainting behaviour by some of the more advanced drivers, optimizing a little too much.

Sorry for the delay - i've been out of town for a while...

Well, that is a good question.

The XP box that I am installing on is rather OLD. It has had all of the latest Windows updates for XP but nothing special that I remember but I would have installed the very latest drivers available from the manufacturer at the time. I don't have a monitor or keyboard attached to it anymore.

HOWEVER, I am running the install while remoted connected to the XP box. That box is a new Windows Vista box with the latest nvidia drivers - at least as of a few weeks ago. I can't remember the exact version off hand but I'm pretty sure it was the latest generally released version, not the beta. It is the first version that fixed the sleep/restore issue with a single card - not SLI mode.

William - do you still see this issue with the installer?
Comment 6 Doug Williams 2007-10-30 09:41:20 UTC
I'm planning on doing another round of installing tonight or tomorrow morning - from the forum it sounds like there have been some additional changes to test (for other areas/issues).
I really think that this is related to remote connecting to the XP box to do the install with the new nvidia Windows Vista video drivers. I'm also planning on upgrading the Vista video drivers to the very latest released beta ones if I still see the problem.
Comment 7 Doug Williams 2007-10-31 17:47:39 UTC
Yes. I think that it is due to the remote desktop connection. I'll update my Vista video drivers next.
Comment 8 Doug Williams 2007-10-31 19:55:41 UTC
Newest beta nvidia drivers on windows vista (32-bit) still don't display the language options install screen until the mouse is moved - using the 10/31 SC build.
Comment 9 Doug Williams 2007-11-05 05:56:14 UTC
This didn't seem to occur with the 11/3 and 11/4 builds. I back checked some older installs and they also did NOT have the display problem any longer. There were some Windows Vista updates and hot fixes that were applied to the box I am remoting from so it seems likely that this has been corrected from that end. I'm figuring that Fixed means that you changed something to fix it so I flipped this one to works for me instead. Please correct this if I am wrong.

Thanks.
