Description Eric Raeber 2007-10-13 00:42:36 UTC
The process appears as SQUEEZ~1.EXE in the task manager.
Comment 1 KDF 2007-10-13 10:48:15 UTC
isn't that just the standard "shortname" that windows uses?

Yes, this is the default truncated file name. When services are added in Windows, a full name (with spaces and more than 8 characters) can be assigned. Check out in the Windows Task Manager. Most other services have a full name. I don't know what "wrapper" is used to run SqueezeCenter as a windows service, but it is possible that we simply left out one parameter that would give the service its description, and it would default to its 8+3 file name.

Eric - can you still confirm this with the latest builds? I'm seeing the full "squeezecenter.exe" in the task manager.
Comment 4 Chris Owens 2007-11-05 10:37:03 UTC
Several people here also report this happening. QA to try to reproduce
Comment 5 Ross Levine 2007-11-05 13:32:22 UTC
I'm not seeing this on Vista or XP, Eric are you still noticing this? Is it from a particular build?
Comment 6 Michael Herger 2007-11-05 14:09:09 UTC
I did see it on Vista, but not on XP. But the service is registered with its full name (to be found in the registry as squeezecenter.exe). I therefore assume it's up to Windows to decide why it's playing games with us.
Comment 7 Mickey Gee 2007-11-06 13:15:40 UTC
I can show you on my XP SP2 laptop, Ross. I'll include a screenshot of the Windows task manager.

Thanks Mickey. Michael is this worthy of any effort?

First I wanted to say "no". But then I realised that SqueezeTray tried to kill a job called "squeezecenter.exe" - which obviously wouldn't always work (in fact I wouldn't have noticed if SC hadn't shown up as squee~1.exe on XP during tests...). I added some code in change 14413 to handle that case.

Thus I'd consider this case closed. Feel free to re-open if you see more problems than just the short name showing up in task manager.

This bug is being closed since it was resolved for a version which is now released! Please download the new version of SqueezeCenter (formerly SlimServer) at http://www.slimdevices.com/su_downloads.html

If you are still seeing this bug, please re-open it and we will consider it for a future release.
