Description John Coyne 2004-09-22 10:12:13 UTC
There is no tray icon when Slim.exe is running so it makes it difficult to shut
down and also to start up the gui

Ideally, the icon should remain in the tray as long a slimserver is running, and
should provide a way of bringing up the web interface, or closing the server
when the web interface is not open.

If this request is for a tray icon for the _server_ rather than for the
slimserver.exe browser (which already appears as a tray icon, if I'm not
mistaken), then it needs to be optional and configurable through some means.
Tray icons that can't be hidden are particularly annoying. I don't have icons
for 98% of the services running on my system, but I know how to start and stop
any of them if need be.
Comment 3 Philip Meyer 2005-06-07 13:41:29 UTC
I think the plan is to remove the slimserver.exe (the windows GUI, not the
service), and replace it with a simple tasktray application that will launch
the default web browser.

This is because there are some problems with the windows GUI app.

However, although I'm not keen on the windows GUI app problems (such as not
refreshing the now playing info whilst minimised), I prefer this GUI app to
using a standard web browser, so I think I'll copy the GUI app somewhere else
before upgrading slimserver, and disable the new tasktray app. It's annoying
having an unnecessary tasktray icon, but even more annoying having an app
minimised to the taskbar, and it would appear that if I close the browser, I'd
have to log back in when relaunching.
Comment 4 Don Lagosz-Sinclair 2005-06-20 12:49:43 UTC
In the forum recently, there was a post from "Chippy" (05-28-2005, 04:06 PM EDT)
that points to the "Hide when minimized" item in the options menu, of which I
was unaware. That does exactly what I need, since SWMBO uses the server to surf
the web, and is finicky about additional applications running. Thus the server
would get shut down due to excessive tidying-up, so leaving just the tray icon
behind is perfect.

In fact, Philip Meyer's complaint about the gui not updating while minimized is,
not a bug, in my case, but a feetchur: I'd rather not have my modestly powered
server doing any work generating web pages that aren't visible!

Checked in new tray tool to 6.1 trunk (and got rid of the old SlimServer.exe
application).

This bug was marked resolved in Slimserver 6.1, which is several versions ago. If you're still seeing this bug, please re-open it. Thanks!

Routine bug db maintenance; removing old versions which cause confusion. I apologize for the inconvenience.
