Bugzilla – Bug 557
Support of ID3 "TIT1"
Last modified: 2011-03-19 18:46:32 UTC
Hello, I'd like to vote for the support of ID3 tag "TIT1" (aka Content group description, see here http://www.id3.org/id3v2.3.0.html#TIT1 for details) in SlimServer. This tag (iTunes refers to it as "Grouping") is used mainly for classical music. I don't need to search by this tag, I'd only like to use it in "Server Settings > Formatting" so it can be displayed on the Squeezebox while playing a song. Thanks to anybody who is willing to support my quest or - better still - cares to implement it in an upcoming version of Slimserver (sorry, but I can't do it myself). Alexander.
Any chance this one gets implemented, now that the 6.0 with its database is up and running? Thanks, Alexander.
Dan: how hard is this?
We'd need another column in the tracks table. But beyond that, it's not too hard.
What is the status of this feature request? Is there a chance that support for the TIT1 ID3 tag (referred to as GROUPING by iTunes, as CONTENTGROUP bei mp3tag and as CONTENT GROUP by foobar2000) will be supported? For classical music this tag is really essential to store the name of the classical work (while the album tag stores the name of the album and the title tag stores the name of the respective movement of the work). I use it for all my classical music (using the great CustomScan and CustomBrowse plugins). But it would be MUCH better if it was integrated into the standard tag handling (e.g. that it is displayed in the track info screen, that it is searchable etc.). With CustomBrowse I have created a browse menu structure for classical music like composer -> grouping (=work) -> artist -> title (=movement) and album -> grouping (=work) -> title (=movement) and artist -> album -> grouping (=work) -> title (=movement) and grouping (=work) -> composer -> artist -> title (=movement) This is really great for browsing classical music.
The TIT3 tag (Subtitle) would also be nice, as long as you're in the neighborhood. But just adding the GROUPING tag would make life a lot easier for large classical libraries. And iTunes supports it.
