not exactly what you are asking for, but
Settings->Remote Settings->Advanced->About Jive
will show the MAC address

Ben, one can't get to that settings screen upon initial setup, especially when the MAC address isn't the same as what's printed on the unit and is unable to connect to wireless.

The mac address should match the one printed on the belly label inside the battery case. It would be confusing for most people to see this.
