Description Bill Eccles 2007-09-17 10:46:11 UTC
Gentleones,

I have verified that iTunes sometimes (I cannot determine what conditions cause this situation) creates its XML file and calls it "iTunes Library.xml" and not "iTunes Music Library.xml" as is required by SlimServer.

Though it appears that I can explicitly specify the path _and_ filename of the XML file, I have not verified that this solves the problem. I have verified that creating a symbolic link from "iTunes Music Library.xml" to "iTunes Library.xml" fixes the problem and allows me only to specify the path to the XML file.

Any questions? Feel free to ask.

Bill

What specific version of Mac OS X 10.4 and iTunes are you using?

"10.4.10" and "7.4 (26)"

If I create a brand new iTunes library, it does indeed create the XML file as "iTunes Music Library.xml". But there's something odd about my particular installation. I looked back at a previous copy of the library from April and it, too, has an "iTunes Library.xml" file--not iTML.xml.

I can't find any preference anywhere which would lead me to think that there's a setting that can be changed, and it's obviously not an iTunes prefs issue because a new library creates it as iTML.xml.

Anyway, for what it's worth, a change in the wording of the prompt above the field for the location of the xml file would be easily incorporated into a 6.5.x rev, something that says "Path and name of the iTunes XML file" instead of just "path to the file."

Thanks for an excellent product. Wish I could afford a SB3. In the meantime, my SliMP3 is workin' just fine!

possible fix

I've done some google searching, and it looks like cases of iTML.xml and iTL.xml are common. The only explanation seems to be it happens in "certain cases". Of course, nothing official from Apple to explain. I am also unable to find anything that makes it clear which version of iTunes began doing this.

Might be best to simply update the auto-find function to look for filenames of both formats. Perhaps a patch like this one attached. I haven't tested as I do not have iTunes.

As far as I can tell, it's working fine.

Thanks,
