Description Anoop Mehta 2007-09-13 18:54:11 UTC
When entering an encryption key, if the user was to enter in an extra character, there is no way of removing this character or space without pressing the play button. This to me will not be easy enough for the customer. I feel the need to have the back button actually take away the character spacing, instead of relying on the play button to do this.

Then, what option is there if you have 22 or 23 characters done correctly and only want to go back to character 3 and edit just that one?

SS already uses add/play/back for entering WPA and I think that while it's not always the easiest method, it should remain consistent between them.

It's true the back arrow will not allow you to remove the character, you will need to use play or add to remove an extra character. After looking closer at this I agree with KDF (and Steven) it would be difficult to make this any simpler. The back arrow needs to allow the user to go back to change prior entered characters. In the case that a customer enters the wrong character towards the beginning of the key, or the very last character, either way the back arrow will help them resolve the problem. The only case the back arrow does not help the customer is if they enter one too many characters and need to use play/add to remove the extra character(s).

Customers will likely enter an extra character less often than simply a wrong character in the string, and as such I think it makes most sense to have the back arrow used as it is now. I'll mark this as invalid for now but if anyone has anything they'd like to add please do not hesitate.

I filed this bug before the new firmware with the description of the two buttons. I also think that this has made it very clear on what buttons do what.
