Bugzilla – Bug 5280
Web Interface: Opening page is very messy. Unusable.
Last modified: 2008-12-18 11:12:53 UTC
Gateway, P4, 1.97 GHz, 1.25 GB of RAM, Win 2K SP4 ENU Steps to Reproduce: 1. Download today's 7.0a1 build (2007-08-17). 2. Install it. 3. SlimServer auto starts upon completion of installation. 4. Double click the desktop icon to start the web interface. 5. Notice the web interface is very messy. It is not usable at all.

Please state what browser you're using, what firewall software etc. when having problems with the web interface. (it's IE6 in this case, I guess?) Do you have JavaScript enabled? (I'll probably add a non-JS warning page). That's how the page looks without JS enabled. Or JS stripped away by some proxy/firewall. Not a bug per se, I guess, but a problem with the browser :-/: BTW: the web interface should be started automatically, not only on doubleclicking the icon.
Yes, it is IE version 6.0.2800.1106. For today's build, the same opening screen is blank instead of messy. This problem is on Win 2K only. The opening web page look fine on both XP and Vista.
Created attachment 2115 [details] On 2K only: Opening web page is blank. Today is 2007-08-20.
Created attachment 2117 [details] Please do not use BMP to upload screenshots I see google bar and stuff installed - is this a clean installation? No firewall/AV/proxies filtering out JavaScript? Do you have JS enabled? This very much looks like JS is not running. IE6 whether on W2K or XP should behave the same. And may I kindly ask you _not_ to upload images as BMP and no full screen shots? That screenshot of yours is ridiculous 1.6MB big, and your server's upstream rather slow. It took me a full minute to download that screenshot - which, saved as .PNG, is 1000x(!) smaller. Thanks!
(oops, my math - "only" 100x smaller :-))
Is this issue still open?
It shows perfectly on 2K now. Bugs as written is no longer seen. Here is the trick: 1. Go to Microsoft update site and update everything, including the IE. Reboot. 2. Go to Sun Microsystem site and install whatever Java virtual machine. Reboot. 3. Start IE and go to Internet Options under Tools. 4. Make sure "Use JRE 1.6.0_02 for <applet>" is checked. Now, the SlimServer settings wizard shows up perfectly. No more messy unusable page.
Closing.
Bug was regressed with SlimSerever 7.0a1, build 2007-09-18.
