Bugzilla – Bug 5233
Reduce boot time (was add progress bar on logo screen to show progress of boot sequence)
Last modified: 2011-11-06 23:22:42 UTC
So that the user knows that something is happening as it boots.
Not sure if we still need this, but if so I found this the other day http://projects.o-hand.com/psplash
I don't have a strong opinion on whether we need a boot progress indicator.
Nifty. Let's see how long the boot time is with the new kernel. I think that we're now just on the edge of needing a progress bar. If it gets much longer, we'll want one.
Timing this: 0 seconds - power on 5 seconds - logitech logo 20 seconds - Free Your Music 42 seconds - Home menu Compared to my cell phone: 5 seconds - t-mobile logo 15 seconds - windows mobile logo 34 seconds - t-mobile animation and sound 63 seconds - home menu starts to draw 104 seconds - home menu finishes drawing Ok, so we're better than a crappy windows mobile phone. I think that this time is probably acceptable for ship, but if it goes up significantly, we'll need to revisit. Reducing it would be the best solution, of course.

We will be reducing the boot time (not adding a progress bar), currently planned for 8.0. This will work on all SqueezeOS platforms.
