Description Ross Levine 2007-07-26 16:30:03 UTC
Currently there is no way to put a player to sleep from the web interface, only from the remote control. Enhancement request, sleep functionality from web interface.

7.0 default skin is being reworked currently.

Jim, is one of your people working on the web design for 7.0? This is a feature that is implemented in the server, but only one of KDF's skins supports it so far.

I think that this is a good idea. We could add a sleep button to the right of the volume up icon.
Comment 5 Michael Herger 2007-12-30 00:20:15 UTC
We have to think about the GUI part: how do we let the user select different times? We might have a button with small numbers on them?

Punting enhancements post 7.0.x series

Brian - any idea how this could fit in our GUI?
Comment 7 Michael Herger 2008-04-30 05:08:08 UTC
Assigning to Brian for mockup.

I'll have something for this before the weekend is up...
Comment 9 Brian Dils 2008-05-05 12:31:02 UTC
Michael what do you mean "small numbers"? Do you mean just on the icon to show what it does or are you imaging that user can select many minutes until it sleeps?
Comment 10 Brian Dils 2008-06-11 14:36:43 UTC
Is this still a feature that we are targeting for 7.1?

I think we should add a sleep button to the left of the power button that also has an associated drop down menu. When asleep it will be lit up. Also we should enlarge the power button in this case. If the user presses the button it will put the player to sleep right away, and in the drop menu it should say:

Sleep Now
15 minutes
30 minutes
60 minutes
90 minutes

Same behavior as power, when the user tries to add or play something, the player will wake up. If the user has already set the sleep, the first menu item should say "Sleeping in x minutes" but it wouldn't be selectable, similar to the "select player" menu item in the player drop down menu. The second menu item should be "cancel sleep", followed by the menu items above.

Should we see if Scott can create some assets for this?
Comment 11 KDF 2008-06-11 15:22:36 UTC
don't forget the "sleep after current song" option, which is supported in the player ui. it will need to also be in web ui if you want to keep consistent. Implementation isn't hard, as the sleep value will return the correct values (time remaining, however, so you need some math to determine if that's 'at end of song' or just time remaining), but you'll need artwork to fit with it.

Fishbone skin already does this, so you can compare when kind of code may be needed.
Comment 12 Blackketter Dean 2008-06-11 17:18:36 UTC
Brian: When the player goes to sleep, it actually pauses and turns off, so there is no specific "asleep" state.

You'll need to be more specific about the UI. Can you provide some mock-up screenshots?

Also, I'm not convinced that this is a high-priority enhancement (P4), and given how late we are in the cycle here and how there are no votes for this feature request, I'm thinking we should punt. Is there pull from the community for this?

Finally, Michael would likely need to do the work. What are your thoughts, Michael.

Comment 13 Michael Herger 2008-06-11 23:06:32 UTC
I'm not sure I fully understand the UI idea: basically a drop down to the left of power? Should be feasible - just need the artwork. The enlarged power button?

As for the demand: a lot of our own folks on the CC list, one external. Compared to the stop button request (bug 5670, bug 7320) this is less than minor. (and fwiw: there are even technical reasons for the latter to be fixed)

Matt: please think about this in the context of a web remote design spin
