Description Dan Evans 2007-06-08 11:42:18 UTC
(from ticket 070604-000625)

Customer has a playlist that contains all his songs (12,000+) referenced in UNC path format. The Music Folder within Slimserver is set to read a mapped drive that contains all his music. Slimserver perceives the songs in the playlist as additional songs, even though the path is resolved to be identical if you drill down into two identical songs. The bottom line is he gets every song listed twice.

Below are details from the customer:

Following is an explicit description of
the circumstances under which duplicate entries are created. I could
provide screen snags of folder structure, actual playlist samples, and
snags of the duplicate entries as they appear on SlimServer screens if
that would be useful.

SETTINGS
MUSIC=d:\path\Music
PLAYLIST=d:\path\Playlists

CONTENTS OF d:\path\Music are 4 shortcuts of form
d:\path\_CD Music
d:\path\_MP3 Music
d:\path\_XMAS Music
d:\path\_XOther

Each of these shortcuts points to the first level of a hierarchic
structure of folders several layers deep containing MP3 or WAV files at
the lowest level.

CONTENTS OF d:\path\Playlists are
FOLDER NAME=Playlists
Contains Extended M3U playlist entries of format #EXTM3U converted from
original simple M3U playlist format. All the entries are d:\path\filename
format. One of these lists contains an entry for all music files referred
to in the collection of shortcuts comprising the designated Music library
 above.
and following 3 folders which contain
FOLDER NAME=_DVL Favorites For Remote
Contains Simple M3U playlists files with entries such as
 "D:\Disk2\_CD Music\0000 Portraits\00 Carmen McRae - Marian McPartland.mp3"
where Disk2 both a share name and a folder name on the same system where
 SlimServer is running
FOLDER NAME=_Playlists From Disk2
 empty
FOLDER NAME=_Songlists From Disk2
 empty

The foregoing configuration produces no duplicate entries in the database.

HOWEVER, IF I DELETE
 FOLDER NAME=_DVL Favorites For Remote
and ADD
 FOLDER NAME=_UNC Favorites For Remote
which Contains Simple M3U playlist files with entries such as
 "\\SERVER\Disk2\_CD Music\0000 Portraits\00 Carmen McRae - Marian McPartland.mp3"
where "SERVER" is the name of the network machine where SlimServer is
 also running
THEN when I rescan the playlists or clear and rescan all, for each entry
in the playlists, a duplicate entry is created in the database.

If I have time I will try the converse configuration to see whether it
also produces duplicate database entries, ie music library referred to
using UNC form and playlist using disk name form.

A couple files and a playlist that display this behavior would be handy.
