Bugzilla – Bug 4939
6.5.2 only 'sees' itunes half the time, also patch confusion in server settings -> itunes
Last modified: 2008-12-18 11:12:53 UTC
Sorry, accidentally hit the enter key prematurely. Dan Evans and I have both reproduced this. I tried this twice and saw it once. On a fresh image of XP I installed iTunes and established a library of a few mp3s. Then download and install SlimServer 6.5.2, set no music folder and no playlist folder, but enable 'use iTunes'. One time I did this it worked fine, the other time it did nothing. Also the time it did work when I went to server settings -> iTunes, it says "If you are running iTunes on a different computer than SlimServer, you may specify an explicit path to the iTunes Music Library.xml file here. Leave this blank if you are running iTunes on the same computer as SlimServer." but this field is populated, could be confusing to some. Thanks Steven and Dan for your help with this.
Adding Dan as a CC.
In my case, this was on a freshly reinstalled XP machine with iTunes 7.1.1 and Slimserver 6.5.2 from 4/24/07. Just with setting the "Use iTunes" radio button, I could not see the 2 songs I added to iTunes, nor any playlists. I tried setting the Music Location and XML file explicitly and at first it still did not work, but I tried deleting the cache and prefs and rescanning a few more times then could see my 2 files but could still not see the test Playlist I created.
--d_itunes logs? (from command line will help, as this can show the attempts to find the library) as for the settings page, perhaps the wording should be "Leave this field alone if you are running iTunes on the same computer as SlimServer." In truth, those path settings were a user-provided patch for using itunes with a linux based slimserver. It only works in the case where the music is on the linux machine, shared over samba and mapped such that the music folder root is a mapped drive root. Having users who want to have itunes on one windows machine and slimserver on another might have luck mapping the root folder to a drive root as well, but hard to say what will happen as iTunes forever breaks it's format on each release. It might be worth considering dropping this option and only support itunes import from the same machine, OR a specified xml file (which could optionally be tweaked via find/replace to suit a wider range of network combinations) I think that covers the back story. If there are any questions, I might recall more some better detail if needed.
Every time I enable d_itunes this issue isn't reproducible. Dan if you see this again please try it out. If I see this again I'll reopen.
Steven to have a look.
I have not been able to reproduce this bug. I am seeing related bug 4971 however.
Leaving open for more info for 7.0. If any customers are seeing this, please add any information you can! Thanks.
Duplicate / related to bug 4971 ?
Is this still an issue? I'd consider it gone with the new default app mode. The reason you were not able with --d_itunes turned on probably was as you then were running it as an app instead of the (then) default service.
I will re-open if I see this again. Thank you Kevin and Michael.
This bug is being closed since it was resolved for a version which is now released! Please download the new version of SqueezeCenter (formerly SlimServer) at http://www.slimdevices.com/su_downloads.html If you are still seeing this bug, please re-open it and we will consider it for a future release.
