Description David Gray 2007-04-14 15:43:19 UTC
Hello. I am having a problem with Softsqueeze crashing. I have verified and reproduced the crash on 2 completely different systems, having tried XP, and Vista both on one of the systems, and several versions of Java from 1.4.x all the way up to the newest version 1.6. I can reproduce this on every system. Details of the systems and versioning are below. The crash exhibits itself when switching from one favorite to another favorite, or sometimes when just stopping a stream playback. The bug occurs about 20 percent of the time but it varies. All streams that I have in the favorites are Shoutcast. Softsqueeze simply exits, dumping you to the Windows desktop, without any indication of what happened. Inside the Softsqueeze application folder is a java dump file. I have attached one for reference. This one was generated from the Vista client (setup 2 below). I can so easily reproduce this on vanilla setups, on different machines entirely, that I am surprised that I can not find any references to other persons experiencing this crash.

Setup 1:
AMD based budget system, with XP Pro, service pack 2, fully updated with Windows Update. Slimserver 6.5.1. Softsqueeze 3.3. Java 1.6.0. Also tried previous softsqeeze version, and Java 1.4, and 1.5. Server and client on the same machine

Setup 2:
AMD based server x2 4400, with Windows Server 2003, plus SP1, fully updated with Windows update. Client is Core2 6600 system, using an Intel motherboard, ECC ram, etc (so should be extremely stable). Client O/S tried is XP, and Vista. Slimserver 6.5.1, and also tried 6.5.2 running on the server. The client machine is currently running Softsqueeze 3.3, and Java 1.6.

A crashdump file is here:

I am willing to work directly with a programmer if needed to solve this. I can be contacted at davidfgray@hotmail.com

Thank you.

Richard do you have time to look at this?

David I hope you don't mind but I'm bumping this down to a normal severity rather than critical.
Comment 2 Ross Levine 2007-05-24 13:47:27 UTC
David could you please try this with SlimServer 7.0?
Comment 3 Ross Levine 2007-05-24 17:58:24 UTC
Nevermind my last comment.

I tried this on my AMD 64bit Vista system and I can't even get SoftSqueeze to open. Are there known java issues with AMD?

I can reproduce this bug also on Intel systems!
Comment 5 Michael Herger 2007-12-21 04:53:23 UTC
Is this still an issue with the latest builds?
Comment 6 Ross Levine 2007-12-21 16:34:03 UTC
Reproduced this with 7.0 - 15528
Comment 7 Blackketter Dean 2007-12-28 10:57:03 UTC
We'll need to look at this post-7.0.
