Description Wallace Lai 2007-04-13 11:08:24 UTC
System Info: Gateway, P4, 2.0 GHz, 1.25 GB in RAM, XP SP2, IE 6.0.2900.2180
SlimServer Version: 6.5.2 - 11726
Perl Version: 5.8.8 MSWin32-x86-multi-thread
MySQL Version: 5.0.22-community-nt

Steps:
1. Start SlimServer.
2. Start the web interface.
3. Go to the Default skin, check out a few things.
4. Go to the Light skin, check out a few things.
5. Go to the ExBrowse3 skin, check out a few things.
6. Notice these three skins seem to be the same.

ExBrowse3 is disabled so if you use http://serverip:9000/ExBrowse3 as a url, you'll get Default as the fallback.
"Light" is the bogus 'friendly' name for the EN skin, so if you used http://serverip:9000/Light, you will also get Default skin as the fallback. Default skin will show up whenever a skin override refers to an invalid skin or typo.

If you switch skins using the preferences, slimserver.css will be cached sometimes rather strongly depending on the browser, so it much be refreshed.

suggested workaround would be to always use the full skinoverride url if switching skins frequently:

http://serverip:9000/Default/
http://serverip:9000/EN

note, ExBrowse3 is disabled and probably should be considered Dead as the author has not been involved with it for a very long time. I tried to make as many updates as I could but ran past my limit to understand what was going on with the code.

not sure if all of this should be targetted for 6.5.2 until there are some developers actually involved with 6.5.2...maybe.

Hi KDF,

We're working on having a test plan for Slimserver, and using it prior to a release. So, some bugs filed by QA may not be the most constructive for the 6.5.2 release but Dean will have to sign off on them so he'll know they're in here, and we'll have improved the test plan and procedures for the next release.

And it is sort of crummy to have non-working skins (from the user perspective).

After the 6.5.2 release we'll verify these against 7.0 and move them over.

Not all filed bugs need to be fixed. Some bugs are closed because they are about discontinued features.
In this case, if the features are gone, it would be great if users cannnot access them.
All the other skins look so interesting and different, except these. I kept going into them again and again, thinking maybe there was something wrong with my PC or the way I used it. It is a good idea not to let other users to go through that.

oh, I see. Look the same...not 'same' :)

yes, I have to agree on that point. I think a lot of skins are well past their sell by date.

Light should really only be there as a "basic" template with no styling. All skins are based on Light, using custom templates where they exist and css sheets. Ideally skins would all be just graphics and css, but that's hard to achieve.

I've tried to maintain most of them, but it's long since stopped being fun.

I have set the priority and severity more appropriately. If you would, please try to do that with your bugs, Wallace, especially as we approach a release date. I used your own guidelines in the test plan...
Comment 6 Chris Owens 2007-05-15 16:33:46 UTC
No reason to risk changes for a minor bug at this stage.
Comment 7 KDF 2007-10-16 08:35:07 UTC
Is this still an issue? If so, can we clarify what exactly is left to do?
Comment 8 Chris Owens 2007-10-16 15:12:56 UTC
Light seems to work as expected for me, and ExBrowse3 has been removed.

This bug is being closed since it was resolved for a version which is now released! Please download the new version of SqueezeCenter (formerly SlimServer) at http://www.slimdevices.com/su_downloads.html

If you are still seeing this bug, please re-open it and we will consider it for a future release.
