Description Chris May 2004-08-06 08:01:56 UTC
Simply trying to use the "Browse Songs" feature, or by selecting one of the
other "Browse" options and then pressing play to play everything...

The server seems to crash (nothing happens on the player and the web interface
won't refresh) and the SlimP3 player seems to cycle on and off...

If left long enough (15-30 minutes) the server and the player will re-boot? And
be ready to play.

Here is a small sample of the log.... Looks like its stuck in a loop. There are
thousands of these lines.

I'd hazard to guess you have one cycle of those messages for each song.

loading a very large playlist can cause the server to work so hard that the
players lose the connection. This would appear as if they shut off. Try server
settings->additional->performance, click wipe cache and let it fully rescan.
Try this with iTunes, and without ITunes and see if there is a difference. Also,
how many songs are in your library?

Hmmmm.....

I had copied those logs a few days ago... I have since had to re-format and re-
install stuff on my HD. Now everything is working fine! I'll keep an eye out to
see if this problem re-appears. I still haven't installed all my other software
and stuff... maybe one of those is the culprit, or maybe it was a bad install
or HD was fragged...

I'll keep you posted!

ah, it may have been some stale data from the caching. Let us know if it starts
happening again. Browse Songs is a feature that severely taxes the server.
Locating probllems in that might help many other searches, but show up more
clearly in Browse Songs.

whenmy computer running the slimserver decided it was time for a re-formatting
and re-install, I had iTunes use the "keep my Librabry Organized" feature. This
seems to re-write some of the MP3 tags.

I also consolidated the files into one place.

Perhaps one of these differences is what fixed this issue.

Routine bug db maintenance; removing old versions which cause confusion. I apologize for the inconvenience.
