Bugzilla – Bug 4785
SB fails to display error message if WEP password is incorrect
Last modified: 2009-09-08 09:28:01 UTC
When connecting to a WPA encrypted wifi and entering in the wrong password, you get an error saying, "Problem: Wireless encryption failure". But, when connecting to a WEP encrypted wifi and entering in the wrong password the Squeezebox says "Connected to wireless network: XYZnet" and continues to the next step in setup-- to obtain an IP. It then displays the error, "Couldn't find DHCP server". The WEP password failure seriously needs the correct error message. It's killin' us in Support.
Adding Richard to the CC, your thoughts?
And I'd love to be able to give you that error message. The problem is with WEP it is not possible to tell that the key has been entered incorrectly. We can only send DHCP requests, but will never get back any replies. With WPA it is possible to work out the password was incorrect, and therefore this can be reported to the user. The only thing I can suggest is to change the wording of the "Couldn't find DHCP server" error. Please talk this over with Dean if you think that may help, then reopen the bug. Sorry, can't fix it :(.
Per the same discussion on Jive, I'm pasting Dean's request here to implement on Squeezebox as well. (dean wrote:) "In the case that that it's WEP and DHCP fails, use this string: Problem connecting to wireless network or getting an IP address. Go back to change your password or press go to try to reconnect." Please see bug 5390 for updated error text.
On SB, the text will need to be shorter: Problem Connecting (WEP key or DHCP) Press right to try again
