Bugzilla – Bug 4749
Setup crash when entering static IP
Last modified: 2007-10-26 09:27:37 UTC
When entering static IP information, if you press fast forward to skip the DNS screen, the firmware crashes. However, if you press right arrow repeatedly to skip it, it does not crash. Also, doing the same thing on the gateway menu does NOT cause a crash! I looked at the code but I'm a little stumped as they both use the same menu routine.
I can't recreate this, Chris any ideas?
Hmmm... maybe it is dependent on the data entered, whether the server is running, etc... but in my setup it is 100% reproducible. I don't have a SB handy at the moment but tomorrow I will try it and note the exact sequence that triggers it.
Yeah I couldn't repro it either. I tried with settings leftover in memory from the last successful DHCP connection, and clean after a factory reset. Perhaps there's something that the IR blaster is doing that we can't with fingers and a remote?
Rico has discovered the key. The SB3 must not have a wireless card installed.
Note this is not a jaw-dropping horrible emergency, because all the units being manufactured currently are wireless. However, it would still be ideal if we could fix this for 6.5.2. But please make it a very 'safe' fix. :)
This makes sense. The unit I was setting up did not have a wireless card. I'm sure it is some simple thing like trying to access some parameter that does not exist for wired players.
So the exact symptoms are: on a wireless unit, go through the process of entering the IP addx, subnet mask, and gateway addx. You will get to the DNS screen. You will be allowed to enter the addx, but after hitting 'right' to move on, there is a long pause with the DNS addx on the screen, and then the player reboots.
Re: comment #7 Wired, or wireless? In your previous comment you said it must NOT have a wireless card.
I suck. I meant 'on a wired-only unit.'
