Description Dan Evans 2007-02-07 16:56:11 UTC
Some customers are reporting that after upgrading to Vista and installing Slimserver 6.5.1 the server does not start.

In testing here, while I'm finding the server runs okay I do see that the Slimtray icon misreports the server's status. (if the server is running, Slimtray says it's stopped!)

32-bit or 64-bit (see bug 4685)
Comment 2 Dan Evans 2007-02-09 15:55:24 UTC
My own tests were on a 32-bit OS. Others are reporting these problems on 32-bit as well. See the following forum thread where I've requested folks post details:

Error message from 64 bit version

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

* What version of Vista are you running? Ultimate 64-bit.

* What version of Slimserver have you installed? 6.5.1

* What error messages are you getting? (if any)
Clicking on Slim Server icon won't open anything.
Starting SlimServer service manually, I receive the following: "The SlimServer service on Local Computer started and stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs."
This also seems to stop SlimServerMySQL

* What additional Security software are you using? (Firewalls, Antivirus, etc.) Symantec - Norton AntiVirus 2007

* What happens if you try running Slim.exe manually from a DOS prompt? (Cut and paste any errors.)

Comment 4 Ross Levine 2007-02-26 15:59:04 UTC
It's possible the DB is failing to initialize because of Norton's active protection scanner, the delay issue support is currently working customers through.

Ben could you please try disabling Norton and then try to start SlimServer? This may not be OS specific.

While SlimServer is having issues on Vista at times, I don't think this particular bug represents any of the issues accurately. Please feel free to re-open this bug, for now I'm marking it as invalid.

Hi

I've had slimserver working on my new Vista PC but it has now stopped working.

I run Vista Premium 32bit.
I have the latest version available from you website.
I get the error message 'slim.exe failed to start' on boot up.
I run Norton 360.
I don't know how to run from DOS.

Regards

Mike Currie
