May I just suggest that "too slow" is a dangerous way to start going with bug reports. This is simply NOT measurable, thus not fixable. Nor does it take into account the other tasks running, cpu speed, ram, fresh install?, which version of redhat, and probably many other variables that I can't think of right now.

Please try with Firefox as this is one of the readily supported browsers on other platforms. Konqueror is a questionable benchmark as it is unknown what any performance metric might be from this browser given the use of javascript/ajax/css in the current slimserver skins.

For a good record, start the server with --perfwarn pagebuild=0,template=0

and that may help narrow down which elements are causing a problem, also providing exact measures to work from.

Wallace, 20070118:
Hi, KDF,
Thanks for telling me about those options.
Oops. I missed something in the system info section.
HW: IBM Think Centre (Model Unknown), P4, 2.66 GHz, 248 MB of RAM.
Linux Version: RedHat Enterprise Linux 4
Kernel Release: 2.6.9-42EL (as stated in the bug report).
This bug was not seen in Ubuntu with FireFox.
As stated in the bug report, it took more than two minutes for the page to show up for the first time, and about 22 seconds for go to any other page. That is not a good user experience. If this is only a Konqueror issue, we should warn users not to use it.
This would fall into the category of compatibilities tests. A list of likely browsers need to be compiled. Tests need to be run on all of them. A lists of recommended browsers, hardwares, and etc should be published, if one does not already exist.

Wallace, do you have a section of the test plan where we could put this kind of benchmark testing of different browsers and platforms?
Comment 4 Chris Owens 2007-09-18 12:14:47 UTC
Are you still having this issue, Wallace?
Comment 5 Chris Owens 2007-10-23 10:01:00 UTC
There's a discussion about separating the CPU requirements between server and web client machines. The Jive box says 256MB 733MHz.

Dean asked Wallace and Steven to set up a Linux, Windows, and Mac machine for him and marketing to evaluate.
Comment 6 Chris Owens 2007-10-23 10:01:40 UTC
Steven to bring in an appropriate mac.
Comment 7 Blackketter Dean 2007-10-26 14:16:44 UTC
I believe that this is a Konqueror issue. Wallace and I agreed that he'd try it with Firefox on the same machine.
Comment 8 Blackketter Dean 2007-11-25 11:25:38 UTC
Wallace: how did firefox perform?
Comment 9 Michael Herger 2007-12-21 04:49:24 UTC
That's not really a bug, is it? Running SC, X Window and a browser like FF on a machine with <256MB will slow down things a bit. It's just short of memory.

IMHO we should close this or target to "future" or whatever.
Comment 10 Wallace Lai 2008-01-09 09:01:57 UTC
Verified that SlimServer performed better with FireFox on the same machine. Hopefully, future version of Konqueror will be better.
Closing for now.
Comment 11 Wallace Lai 2008-01-09 09:02:49 UTC
Based on Michael Herger's comment, targeting this for the future. Closing.
