Description Steve Agnew 2007-01-13 11:26:58 UTC
Using Random Mix, if you press the fast forward button to move on to the next track you hear the first few seconds of the track, then a pause lasting about 1.5 seconds (during which time the visualisation is frozen) before the music starts again. The same thing happens when the first randomly selected track starts playing.

I first noticed this when I was running the 6.5.1 nightly releases (up to 12-17-06 at least).

Transporter
Firmware V24
Slimserver 6.5.1 - 10992 (12-17-06 nightly)
Windows XP
All Flac files, so there is no transcoding going on.
Wired (via Homeplug)

It's possibly related to the size of the library, about 25,000 songs.

I've seen this on two separate systems, both WinXP. I swapped out the Transporter for a Squeezebox and the problem was still there. I've since deleted the 6.5.1 beta and gone back to 6.5.0 and still have the same problem.

not much point reporting about old nightly builds without trying the more recent builds. This sounds like bug 4477 which is reported fixed as of change 11162 on Jan 8. Please update your build and let us know.

Hi KDF,

Sorry for reporting something which had been fixed. I reported this problem to support a month ago and I've been waiting on a response for the last two weeks; as of the 21st December this problem supposedly wasn't reproducible. I thought I might get a speedier resolution by reporting it here. Which I did.

With the current nightly there is still a short pause when switching tracks; you can see the VU meters freeze briefly for maybe 1/4 second but the audio isn't affected.

Regards, Steve.

What is the CPU/Ram in this case?

the problem in the former bug was not wide reproduceable, but the recent fix was a rewrite to speed some operations up where possible.

Hardware specs:

Compaq Laptop
AMD Sempron 3300+ CPU 2GHz
512MB RAM

Task Manager shows slim.exe using 78MB and mysqld at 17Mb.

Steve, could you see if this is still happening?
Comment 6 Blackketter Dean 2007-11-25 12:12:17 UTC
Steve, can you retest on the SqueezeCenter/SlimServer 7.0 beta?
Comment 7 Steve Agnew 2007-11-27 11:23:21 UTC
The problem seems to be fixed in SC7.0.

The VU meters don't freeze and there is no audible dropout after changing tracks.

It's a big improvement - well done.

Steve

Closing resolved bugs - if you feel this bug still exists please first re-test
with the latest SW/FW version. If you are able to reproduce then feel free to
reopen and attach new logs / steps to reproduce.
