Description Matt Richards 2006-12-18 07:44:25 UTC
When installing 6.5.1 the "Start Automatically" checkbox is checked by default, yet after SS is installed, right-clicking the icon in the system tray brings up a context menu with "Automatically Run at System Start" not checked. As a secondary annoyance, starting SlimServer grays out that choice (and the one below it) in the context menu. It would be nice if this option could be set while SS is running.
Comment 1 Chris Owens 2007-02-12 15:06:19 UTC
Steven could you have a look at this in the 6.5.2 nightly?
Comment 2 Spies Steven 2007-02-14 13:21:40 UTC
I see the same behavior that Matt reports with both 6.5.2 and 7.0a1. It does not seem to matter if the "Start Automatically" option was checked or not during the install the result would be that neither "Automatically run at system start" or "Automatically run at login" would be selected. Is it possible that the problem is related to the fact that we have two "Automatically" options but only offer one option during the install?
Comment 3 Marc Auslander 2007-02-15 17:03:26 UTC
This is not a new problem for me - its been happening for a long time, although it did once work. So don't look only for recent changes.

My setup requires that I manually change the id of the slimserver task so it can get at my music which is on a different machine. Does that have anything to do with the problem?
Comment 4 Chris Owens 2007-02-16 09:27:14 UTC
Steven, did you have do anything unusual to reproduce this bug, like change the id of the Slimserver task?
Comment 5 Spies Steven 2007-02-16 09:32:39 UTC
Chris, I only tested if the choice took at install. I will test the choices after install and get back to you. I think this might be a different bug though.
Comment 6 Spies Steven 2007-02-16 14:27:22 UTC
After spending more time with the "Automatically run at login" & "Automatically run at system start" options I have not been able to produce problems. Both options have worked as expected for me.

Marc, by chance have you communicated your problem with support?
Comment 7 Marc Auslander 2007-02-18 05:55:39 UTC
I have not talked to support because the problem is not worth doing that. Each time I install, I need to change the user/password of the service anyhow. Changing it to automatic as well is not a real problem.

I see this on an upgrade install done from one user id with the service being updated having a different id/password as its log in id. Both id's have admin privs.

(I do this so the server can get at my music which is hosted on a samba drive from another server. The server needs to have an id/password that exists on the samba system).

wallace, 20070323: I see this bug too with 7.0a1 on XP. SlimSErver does not start automatically after reboot. I am logging it for 7.0a1.

wallace, 20070326: Oops, I do not have authority to change the Milestone. I am asking other people to do it.

related to bug 4860 and bug 4968
Comment 11 Chris Owens 2007-10-22 10:11:03 UTC
This appears to have been fixed somewhere along the line.
