Description Dan Evans 2006-12-12 14:29:12 UTC
(reference support tmid 14950)

Customer wrote in claiming that some of his Apple Lossless files ripped from his own CDs were not appearing in Slimserver. I went through the usual tests and ultimately had him send me some of the files.

I confirmed his findings. Some of the files will read and play in Slimserver while others will not. However ALL of these files read and play fine in iTunes. Attached is one file that will not play via Slimserver but does play in iTunes. (I have 2 more if needed but they're big.)

Details:

 * I tested on SlimServer Version: 6.5.1 - 10622 - Windows XP - EN - cp1252

 * In Slimserver, attached file's tags do not read. File Format is listed as "unknown" When you play it, the error on the Squeezebox display is "Problem: Can't open file for:"

 * Tried playing file on Mac OS 10.4.8 in iTunes 7.02 and it plays fine and reads the tags fine.

 * Also tried playing in iTunes 6 on Windows XP. It plays fine and reads the tags fine.

ALAC seems to be able to decode this file into wav okay. Still looking.

Dan, is this customer ticket still open or shall I close this?
Comment 5 Dan Evans 2007-02-15 12:43:24 UTC
I can reproduce if you like. Anytime is fine.
Comment 6 KDF 2007-05-18 10:49:17 UTC
is this a scanning problem or just a playback problem? If they scan ok, show up in browse but don't play then I wonder if this is yet another case of the same old socketwrapper issue that should be solved in the 6.5.2 nightly builds? Worth testing for anyone who has a reproduced test setup.

Just tested this now in support ... attached file plays perfectly in official 6.5.2 release.
