Description Alex 2006-12-04 18:31:32 UTC
When the SS is off-line, the SB2 is unresponsive to any type of commands to control currently playing streams. for example, given that the SB2 caches the stream, a 32kb news stream can run for quite some time, if a SS happens to crash, without providing any type of audio/hardware controls to the remote control (i.e. volume down).

SB should be controllable even if the connection to SS is unavailable, to very least be able to handle the management of the currently selected stream.

Thoughts?

press-and-hold left
press-and-hold power

these are both firmware coded, but there is no real ir handling as the slimserver is a dumb device.

This is expected given the design. Are you asking for an enhancement for firmware ir?

I was hoping for normal operation of volume buttons and the power, similarly to how the SB interprets the remote commands you just described.

ALL command function IR is handled in the server. The player is a slim-client. It only has rudimentary setup and reset support on it's own. volume and power are still not just a case of simple ir. The SB doesn't even have any idea what volume and power are without the server to put the data into context. Just for clarification. I'll mark this as an enhancement request in case any one wants to revisit the fundamental design concepts.

Thank you for your consideration. I am just seeking a more user friendly device.

All new Squeezebox products are likely to be based on the SqueezePlay platform.
We do not plan to implement any further enhancements to the ip3k firmware or
which are targeted specifically at ip3k-based products.

Thanks for the reply 3 1/2 years later on the usability feature of your product.

If you wait long enough, all issues can become obsolete.

Best of luck with the new product!
