Description Sean Adams 2006-11-24 10:22:08 UTC
Investigate regulatory requirements, and then do whatever we can to get rid of this menu. Since we are not an access point, I think it would be reasonable for us to assume that as client, if we see an access point operating on channel X, that it is allowed for us to use channel X. Ie, just use a full channel mask all the time. We should test some modern Windows and MacOS wireless drivers, and see if a US laptop will connect to an EU-only channel out-of-the-box. Perhaps others in the industry are already doing this?

If we CAN'T do that, then we should consider having Squeezebox pre-configured for the wireless region in which it is purchased. We can still allow the user to change it through the advanced setup menu if they want to.

I tested with MacOS changing my access point to Europe, channel 13. It would not connect. However, we should still investigate what else we can do here.

All new Squeezebox products are likely to be based on the SqueezePlay platform.
We do not plan to implement any further enhancements to the ip3k firmware or
which are targeted specifically at ip3k-based products.
