Hi,

I would like to be able to manipulate the behaviour of these two funtions repeat and shuffle so they do not default to the last setting, or at least have then a visual indicator on the display about the settings of these: all too often a repeat playlist is initiated by my girlfriend, but when I next day unknowingly select a song to play (iow new playlist), it starts repeating again.

perhaps something could be built that defaults these two to one userdefined setting when a new playlist is loaded or something.

You can have an icon display for shuffle and repeat settings by using the MusicInfo Screensaver. See the wiki plugins section.
