Bugzilla – Bug 4459
feature request: SlimServer to be able to read tracks from single album in multiple directories
Last modified: 2011-11-06 23:22:34 UTC
We understand that because of the greatest hits bug, that all tracks from an album are currently required to be stored in one directory. However many people who use iTunes or media monkey have their albums stored in more than one directory at times, and those applications seem to deal with this appropriately, while SlimServer cannot.
This is more of a feature regression than addition. This used to work properly, now it creates spurious albums in the web interface. For example, I have a compilation of rare singles/b-sides from a certain band that I keep grouped into a single album called "B-Sides" - this USED to produce a single album entry with that name. Now I get 4 albums called "B-Sides" all listed under the same artist. The problem exists because under the one directory for the album I keep the songs divided within 4 other directories. Example: Early Demos, 89-93 B-Sides, 93-2000 B-Sides, Promos Apart from the division within the sub-directories all tagging for the tracks is identical and neither iTunes nor Slim Server versions prior to 7 had any problem. The "feature"that requires albums to be within the same folder is a very cheap fix for the "albums with same names by different artists" problem. That problem can be gotten around simply by setting the BAND or Album Artist tags.
Unassigned bugs cannot have a priority.
